Residents and officials celebrated the installation of Carlsbad’s new downtown sign Jan. 8 with fanfare at a 5:30 p.m. ceremony.
Hundreds of spectators joined Mayor Matt Hall in lighting the sign, which spans Carlsbad Boulevard in front of the historic former Twin Inns building. The Carlsbad High School Drumline, under the direction of Peter Manzi, performed underneath the sign during the lighting ceremony.
The effort to install the sign, which is based on a version that existed in the 1930s, was spearheaded by Carlsbad real estate agent Carlton Lund. After 14 years of work to get the sign in place, it was installed on Dec. 29.
