Oceanside’s Youth Commission is running again, and the call is out for community teens to sit on the panel, the city announced March 18.
The City Council approved the commission’s return after a 15-year absence, giving a unanimous green light on March 12.
The commission offers an opportunity for high school students to participate in local government and community leadership, the stated in a news release. Students in grades nine through 12 can apply.
Applications, which are available directly from the city, are due by April 13. Eleven seats are available, with terms lasting through 2026 and 2027.
“The Youth Commission will provide a platform for Oceanside’s younger residents to voice their concerns, share perspectives, and contribute to City initiatives,” the city explained in its news release. “Youth Commission members will work directly with City officials, gaining valuable experience in civic engagement while helping advise on policies that affect our community.”
Through serving on the panel, members can:
✓ Advise the City Council on matters affecting Oceanside youths.
✓ Gain civic knowledge and leadership skills.
✓ Participate in hands-on government participation.
