Oceanside police and fire officials are holding outreach and emergency awareness events in February and March, starting with a community forum with the police chief, the city recently announced.
Police Chief Taurino Valdovinos will hold Community Listening Sessions in the city’s council districts. The first is scheduled for 6 p.m. Feb. 25 in District 4 at El Corazon Event Center. The second session is set for District 1 on March 6 at 6 p.m. at MiraCosta College’s Community Learning Center, Community Room 127.
Locations for Valdovinos other sessions will be announced at a later time, according to a city news release.
The city’s Fire Department is scheduling a series of free emergency-preparedness courses in March, presented in English and Spanish.
“We’ve designed these courses to meet our community’s diverse needs,” Fire Department Chief David Parsons said in a city announcement. “Whether someone can commit to a half-day or full-day session, whether they prefer English or Spanish instruction, we want to ensure everyone has access to this vital safety training.”
The first session is a Spanish-language Oceanside SAFE seminar on March 8 from 9 a.m. to noon at John Landes Community Center. The session will include three learning stations where participants can get hands-on instruction in CPR, fire extinguisher use and other emergency-preparedness aspects. Scheduling options are 9:15-10:15 a.m. or 10:30-11:30 a.m.
LISTOS Emergency Preparedness Courses will then be offered on March 15 (English) and March 29 (Spanish). Both sessions run 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at John Landes Community Center and cover topics ranging from disaster response, utility management and family communication planning to first aid and disaster psychology.
The Oceanside SAFE workshops are available for walk-in registration, while the LISTOS courses require advance registration. John Landes Community Center is located at 2855 Cedar Road.
