Oceanside authorities are investigating at least four assaults involving the use of baseball bats on Saturday, Aug. 17, at Oceanside Harbor.
Victims suffered serious head injuries, such as lacerations and a facial fracture, the Oceanside Police Department reported. The department stated that it has located a vehicle linked to the suspects.
Authorities received calls at about 8:50 p.m. that suspects were attacking people at 1400 N. Harbor Drive, according to a Police Department report. Witnesses told authorities that two men wearing bandanas covering their faces were assaulting several people with baseball bats.
Witnesses told officers that the men were randomly targeting people for fights, and one woman who started recording the altercations was then targeted as well.
The suspects fled the scene before officers arrived, the Police Department stated. When officers got to the scene, they found two men suffering from head trauma. The victims were transported by Oceanside Fire Department paramedics to a hospital for treatment.
The Oceanside Police Department then received information that two additional victims were being treated for similar injuries at Tri-City Medical Center, according to the department’s statement.
The department’s Crimes of Violence Unit asks that anyone with information about the incident to contact Det. Sgt. Dave Estrada at 760-435-4698 or DEstrada@oceansideca.org.
