Monday, Sept. 16, marked the official opening of Frontwave Arena, a new multipurpose sports and entertainment venue located in Oceanside’s El Corazon Park.
The 7,500-capacity arena will showcase sports, music of all genres, headline comedy, family shows and community events. The opening kicked off with the Gold Over America Tour starring Olympic gymnast Simone Biles. The venue’s Grand Opening Concert featuring multi-platinum rock band Cake will be held on Oct. 5 in partnership with Belly Up Entertainment.
“After a year and a half of construction and two years of architectural development, we are thrilled to see this massive project finally come to fruition,” said Josh Elias, co-founder and CEO of Frontwave Arena. “We’ve overcome many challenges and I couldn’t be more proud to see our vision for an independently owned venue, for San Diegans by San Diegans, realized.”
The arena will serve as the new home for 16-time champion San Diego Sockers of the Major Arena Soccer League and the newly announced NBA G League San Diego Clippers. It will also host traveling sporting events such as the AVP Beach Volleyball League, International FANCLB Cup USA vs. Mexico and the Los Angeles Clippers vs. Brooklyn Nets NBA preseason game on Oct. 8.
Additionally, Frontwave Arena has announced live music performances including Rock 105.3’s Rocktoberfest, JAM’N 95.7 Presents Monsters of Hip Hop, Magic 92.5’s Freestyle Explosion and KSON Country Christmas.
Frontwave Arena, which cost more than $80 million to complete and was privately funded by three groups with North San Diego County roots, invested heavily in state of the art design and technology. The 170,000 square foot venue features acoustic absorption insulation throughout the arena bowl to reduce noise, reverberations, echoes and distortions; two high definition video scoreboards and a 360-degree ribbon board; and video production infrastructure that will support broadcast-quality cameras, audio and data.
The venue also has a premium lounge and patio capacity for 300 in addition to 16 premium suites and three VIP viewing decks.
“Frontwave Arena is committed to delivering great guest experiences,” says Thierry Gray, Frontwave Arena’s chief operating officer. “When it comes to entertainment, details really matter. And that’s why we put so much effort into the design of the arena, to make sure we’re delivering world-class acoustics and visual capabilities.”
In addition to Frontwave Arena’s founding partners San Diego Zoo Safari Park and Cutwater Spirits, the venue’s local branded food and beverage partners include Cardiff Seaside Market, Gelati & Peccati of Encinitas, and Tanner’s Prime Burgers and Baja Tacos.
Carlsbad-based FLITE Sports will serve as the official merchandise apparel partner for Frontwave Arena’s roster of sports team tenants.
Frontwave Arena is located at 3475 Hero Drive in Oceanside. Information and event schedules can be found at frontwavearena.com.
