A sheriff’s deputy was attacked by a pit bull Nov. 9 while conducting a search of a residence in San Marcos, authorities reported.
The attack happened about 7:55 p.m. after the deputy entered the residence in the 400 block of Palm Road, according to a Sheriff’s Department statement. The pit bull held onto the deputy’s left forearm. Another deputy shot the dog, which stunned it and caused it to release the bite. The dog was shot again when it attacked a second time, however.
The dog fled into a room, where deputies secured it until Animal Control officials arrived, according to the statement.
The injured deputy was taken to Palomar Medical Center where he was treated and released. Animal Control took the dog to a veterinary hospital where it was euthanized, authorities reported.
