Oceanside CA— As an Oceanside City Councilmember, Ryan has led efforts that reduced crime, delivered balanced budgets and increased transparency and trust in our government. He brought forward a term limit coming to this fall’s ballot, a first-ever ordinance for short-term rentals, a second Homeless Outreach Team, a policy towards making our budget motels more family friendly and many other efforts. In response to COVID, Councilmember Keim worked with City Staff to implement policies that aggressively addressed the health crisis and kept our per-capita infection rate among the lowest in the county. Simultaneously, Ryan worked extensively with small businesses to develop creative solutions including the creation of the Economic Recovery Task Force, the connection of suppliers to food-insecure seniors, assisting businesses move outdoors and more.
Ryan states “As we move past the health crisis, we need to address our other pressing challenges-I will confront the homeless crisis and crime associated with it head-on through a compassionate but tough approach, I will protect taxpayer money, preserve Oceanside’s unique character and ensure our seniors and veterans receive the services they deserve.”
A lifetime Oceanside resident, Ryan Keim was appointed unanimously to Oceanside City Council almost two years ago. He is running for the newly-created District 3 seat, the last of two districts in Oceanside to have a designated representative on council. Councilmember Keim graduated with a B.A. in Political Science from CSUSM and became an Oceanside Police officer. He served in the community-policing and gang units before being injured on-duty. He transitioned to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department’s executive management team as lead spokesperson and Public Affairs Director prior to his appointment to City Council. Ryan and his wife Ivy (a school-based occupational therapist) are raising their young daughter in Ocean Hills.
