Oceanside CA— The Oceanside Police Department issued 39 citations for a variety of violations made by bicyclists and drivers during a bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operation that took place on Monday, January 24, 2022. The operation took place at within the City of Oceanside at various locations with high pedestrian and bicycle activity from 5 am to 10 am.
Two bicyclists were cited for violations including CVC 22450(a) failure to stop at a stop sign. In addition, 37 drivers were cited for violations including, CVC 22350, speed unsafe for conditions, CVC 22107 unsafe turning movement, CVC 21950(a) failure to yield, and CVC 21460(a) Failure to obey signs. No pedestrians were cited during the enforcement operation.
“We are in an unprecedent time, but even during a pandemic, the safety of road users remains a top priority,” Oceanside Police Sergeant Rick Davis said. “We hope this operation serves as a reminder to everyone to practice safe biking, driving and walking behaviors when they are out.”
Due to COVID-19, we ask the public to follow direction from public health officials and practice physical distancing when feasible by staying at least six feed away from others.
The Oceanside Police Department will be holding another bicycle and pedestrian safety enforcement operation on February 7.
