Oceanside CA— Last night, Friday August 6, at approximately 8:40 pm, the Oceanside Police Department responded to a collision involving a vehicle and pedestrian at El Camino Real and Camino Town.
Upon arrival, officers located an unresponsive male lying in the northbound lanes of El Camino Real. Life saving measures were immediately performed on scene by Oceanside Paramedics however, the 65-year-old male was pronounced deceased on scene.
Based on physical evidence at the scene, and witness statements, it appears the driver, Destiney Fierros, ran the red light northbound El Camino Real at Camino Town and struck the pedestrian in the crosswalk. Following the collision, the driver remained on scene and was cooperative with police.
The driver was arrested on scene for Vehicular Manslaughter. Neither alcohol nor drugs were a factor in this collision.
The decedent name is being withheld pending notification to his family.
Northbound El Camino Real was closed until shortly before midnight for investigation of the collision. The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team is conducting the ongoing investigation.
