Carlsbad CA— Today, September 22, 2020 the City of Carlsbad Police Department will join law enforcement agencies from the United States and Canada for a virtual Operation Clear Track – the single largest rail-safety, law-enforcement initiative in North America.
Coordinated by Amtrak, Operation Lifesaver Inc. and Operation Lifesaver Canada, Operation Clear Track aims to reduce the number of railway crossing and trespassing injuries and fatalities in the United States and Canada. This event is held during Rail Safety Week.
Due to COVID-19, this year’s event will be virtual. Participating agencies will be promoting rail safety education online, on websites and through messaging on social media using the hashtag #STOPTrackTragedies.
“This event emphasizes the importance of following rail crossing and trespassing laws that promote safety and save lives around the tracks both during Operation Clear Track and all year long,” stated Carlsbad Police Department Traffic Lieutenant Christie Calderwood.
“The goal of Operation Clear Track and Rail Safety Week is to raise awareness of the importance of safe behavior near tracks and trains, in support of OLI’s mission to save lives,” said Operation Lifesaver, Inc. Executive Director Rachel Maleh.
