Carlsbad CA— All beaches in Carlsbad will open Monday, May 4, at 9 a.m., to limited uses, including walking, running, swimming and surfing (see full list below).
All beach parking lots will remain closed and parking will continue to be prohibited along Carlsbad Boulevard. To further reduce crowds, visitors are being asked to leave if the number of people on the beach doesn’t allow for a 6-foot separation between people who don’t live together.
In Carlsbad, the city controls a three-quarter-mile stretch of beach at the north end of the city. The rest of Carlsbad’s beaches are owned and managed by California State Parks. The Carlsbad City Council voted Friday to open the city-controlled beach Monday at 9 a.m. or concurrently with when State Parks opens its Carlsbad beaches. On Sunday, State Parks officials confirmed they would open their beaches Monday at 9 a.m. The state campground and stairs to the beach from the campground will remain closed at this time.
All of the other health orders remain in effect:
- Bring a face covering and put it on if you cannot maintain a 6 foot distance from people you don’t live with (don’t have to wear it in the water).

- Should stay home if you are sick or from a group known to be at a higher risk from COVID-19.
