Carlsbad CA— Last night, March 29, 2019 at 9:45, Officers from the Carlsbad Police Department responded to the 2800 block of State St regarding a report of a vehicle that struck a motorcyclist with a passenger. Upon arrival, Officers located one male and one female both lying in the roadway with serious injuries. The male and female were transported by the Fire Department to a trauma hospital.
The preliminary investigation suggests that the driver of a white Mercedes attempted to make a left turn from the driveway of the Coaster Station at 2800 State St. The motorcyclist was traveling south bound on State St and was broadsided by the driver of the Mercedes. The collision caused the motorcyclist and passenger to be ejected from the motorcycle. The driver of the Mercedes was evaluated and arrested for DUI. The motorcyclist may also had been under the influence of and alcoholic beverage. The investigation into the cause of the collision is underway.
The names of the motorcyclist and passenger have not been released but have been identified as a 28 year-old male and 26 year-old female.
The driver of the Mercedes has only been identified as a 67 year-old male.
