Oceanside CA— Oceanside Fire Department units responded to a reported structure fire at 3093 Industry Street just before 1:00 this morning, February 22, 2019. The first engine arrived six minutes after dispatch and reported smoke coming from a local roofing company.
Upon entry into the building firefighters discovered that a large industrial oven used to make corrugated roofing panels was on fire about 200 feet inside the structure. Firefighters pulled hose lines and made their way through heavy smoke to access the burning oven. Additional personnel proceeded to open large roll-up doors in the building to provide ventilation and help improve visibility inside. Once the crews made access to the oven, the fire was quickly contained and did not spread to adjacent machinery and supplies.
All workers in the facility had evacuated and no civilians or firefighters were injured. Firefighters utilized five large blowers to clear out the smoke and were able to turn the building back over to the business management with minimal damage.
The quick work of the firefighters likely allowed the business to remain open with minimal impact to their operations. Firefighters remained on scene until after 3:00am ventilating the lingering smoke and cleaning up their equipment. The exact cause of why the oven caught fire is unknown at this time.
The Vista and Carlsbad Fire Departments provided mutual aid for this incident.
