Oceanside CA— The Oceanside City Council unanimously approved the appointment of Ryan Keim to the City Council during the regularly scheduled meeting, Wednesday, January 9, 2019.
Mr. Keim will fill the seat formerly occupied by council-member Esther Sanchez. Sanchez was elected to the District 1 seat after the City moved to District elections in 2018 leaving the vacancy in the former at-large seat.
In December, City Council directed staff to begin the process of taking applications for the vacant seat. More than 30 people applied but only Mr. Keims name appeared on the short list of five (four by Council-member Sanchez) names submitted by each of the four council-members. “I went through 21 interviews, of one hour each, to see which ones know our city. Of those people, Ryan knows the city as a former police officer”, said Council-member Feller. “The big issue for me was to make sure somebody was committed to the future and development this city needs to keep going forward.””
A former Oceanside Police Officer, Mr. Keim became the Oceanside Police Department Public Information Officer in 2016 before taking a similar postilion with the San Diego Sheriff’s Department.
