Oceanside CA— Late Thursday, January 17, 2019 at 9:26pm, Oceanside and Vista Fire units were dispatched to a reported structure fire in the 5100 block of Mertensia Street in Oceanside. The first unit arrived approximately 8 minutes after dispatch and encountered heavy smoke and flames blowing out a window on the side of the home.
Crews pulled hose lines and made an aggressive interior attack, clear the house of any occupants and were able to knock down the fire quickly.
Fortunately, the quick work of the first arriving crews stopped the fire from spreading through the entire house. The fire was primarily contained to the guest bedroom and the immediate hallway. Oceanside and Vista units worked seamlessly together for this positive outcome and credited mutual training and response for the success.
A family of three was displaced by the fire and was staying with neighbors.
No civilians or firefighters were injured. An Oceanside Fire Department Investigator was on scene and is conducting an investigation to determine the cause and origin of the fire.
