Updated: The post has been updated. With nearly half a million votes that need to be tallied in San Diego County, the Oceanside District 1 race is too close to call.
Oceanside CA— In May 2017, the City of Oceanside began the transition to district elections. The election on Tuesday was the first in which candidates must live within their district. Unofficially with 100% of the precincts reporting, Esther Sanchez(2335 votes 34.87%) narrowly leads Deputy Mayor Chuck Lowery(2252-33.63%). In District 2, Christopher Rodriguez won easily over Dana Corso and former Oceanside City-Council member/Mayor, Terry Johnson, with 42.92% of the vote. Countywide, 490,000 ballots still need to be processed.
In Carlsbad, Matt Hall wins re-election as Mayor. Barbara Hamilton leads the District 1 City-council seat and Corrine Busta leads in District 3.
In Oceanside, Measure Y that would require a majority vote of the people of Oceanside to authorize rezoning open-space, park or agricultural land to other uses, such as commercial or dense housing failed while Measure X, a half-cent sales tax increase, passed.
See below for unofficial mid-term election results.
