Vehicle Parked at Oceanside Walmart
Oceanside CA— At approximately 01:07am this morning, March 27, 2018 units responded to a report of a motorhome fire in the front parking lot area of Walmart located 3405 Marron Road, in southeast Oceanside. Fire units were dispatch just after 01:07 hours and the first unit arrived in approximately 4 minutes. Engine 214 (E-214) reported a single vehicle motorhome that was well involved in fire and unknown if any occupants were inside.
Because the location of where the vehicle was parked and the amount of fire involved, E-214 laid a water supply line from a parking lot hydrant approximately 300 feet away. A rescue ambulance was added to the response for man power, which was necessary to complete the water supply line and extend attack lines to extinguish the fire. Additional crews arrived to support the first arriving crews in a defensive strategy to contain the fire and get access inside the motorhome to search for occupants.
The motorhome fire was contained and no exposures surrounding the vehicle were threatened for additional damage. The fire was extinguished and under control approximately 15 minutes after the first units arrived at the scene. Unfortunately shortly after the initial fire was knocked out, one victim was found with fatal burn injuries.
An investigator with the Oceanside Fire Department, Police Department and San Diego County Coroner responded to the scene in order to determine the cause and origin of the fire. While there is heavy fire damage to the vehicle, the exact cause is still being investigated. The victim’s identity has not been released until proper notifications have been made.
