San Diego County CA—San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) kicked off its ninth annual “Environmental Champions” grant program, which supports non-profit organizations and their missions to improve the environment in San Diego and southern Orange counties.
Non-profits whose programs incorporate climate education to reduce pollution, improve water quality, promote clean air, and reduce waste, are invited to apply online now through May 1. Grants will range from $2,500 to $25,000 for individual programs and projects. SDG&E plans to announce the grant recipients early this summer.
The Environmental Champions grant program is part of SDG&E’s commitment to improve the environment and enhance the communities it serves. By supporting non-profits and climate science education, the company is able to help build healthier communities and ensure a sustainable future for generations to come.
“Our program is geared towards helping those that are working hard every day to improve our region’s environment,” said Mike Schneider, SDG&E’s chief environmental officer and vice president of operations support and sustainability. “As we partner with these organizations, we share common goals to reduce pollution, clean the air and enhance environmental education.”
The Farm Lab at the Encinitas Union School District is a past recipient of Environmental Champion funds.
“SDG&E’s support helps so many incredible organizations teach people about the critical issues surrounding air and water quality, and resource and waste management,” said Mim Michelove, director of Encinitas Union School District Farm Lab. “It was incredible to use the Environmental Champion funding at Encinitas Union School District’s Farm Lab to bring climate science to the entire district this school year – giving students opportunities to connect to the natural world, and become ecoliterate citizens with a sense of ownership and stewardship of the planet, and their own backyard!”
