Oceanside CA— Oceanside is a great place to live, do business, raise a family and retire and residents have indicated, through a recent poll, a very high favorability for the quality of life and city services. The City of Oceanside has been identifying urgent needs that must be met to help make our city even better. The cost of public safety is increasing every year and the City needs additional resources to maintain safety and our level of police officers, firefighter/paramedics and lifeguards. Improving local streets, sidewalks and essential infrastructure will also help keep Oceanside safe. Making necessary improvements to our streets and repairing potholes ensures that our streets and sidewalks enhance and complement, rather than detract from our beautiful, natural environment.
Our City’s first priority is protecting the safety of our citizens and maintaining a quality of life we all value in our community. To provide stable, local funding to meet these needs, the City of Oceanside is considering placing a one-half cent sales tax measure for the November 2018 ballot.
Potential local funding could:
- Ensure that we have enough police officers to respond quickly to 9-1-1 emergencies and reduce gang activity and drug-related crime
- Ensure that we have enough firefighter/paramedics and lifeguards to respond quickly to 9-1-1 emergencies
- Repair potholes and maintain local streets
- Keep public areas clean and free of graffiti
- Enhance public infrastructure
- Repair, maintain and enhance streets and pavement
Should this ballot measure be passed by Oceanside voters, all money raised would remain right here in Oceanside, and could not be taken away by the state. The measure would require independent citizens’ oversight and public audits. The sales tax measure would be proposed to last for a duration of 7 years.
