Dr. Duane Coleman to Step Down as District Leader
Oceanside CA— Oceanside Unified School District (OUSD) Superintendent Dr. Duane Coleman announced today that he will be retiring as of June 30. Dr. Coleman, who is a product of the schools he now leads, was named superintendent in July 2014.
“Dr. Coleman has made the district and the community of Oceanside proud,” said OUSD Board of Education President Ann Corwin. “Under his leadership, the promise of our students has grown and our community is stronger.”
Dr. Coleman has been an educator for more than 35 years. His experience has taken him from a classroom teacher at OUSD to working as a site administrator in both Oceanside and San Dieguito schools. He eventually took on the role of associate superintendent of curriculum and instruction for OUSD before taking the position of superintendent.
“The educational opportunities I experienced in Oceanside opened the doors to a college education and led me to where I am today,” said Dr. Coleman. “Being the superintendent of this district has been one of the greatest privileges of my life.”
The OUSD Board of Education will be meeting in the coming weeks to discuss next steps and is committed to keeping parents and families, staff, and community members informed of the superintendent selection process in a timely manner.
“The board will work quickly to find a suitable replacement for Dr. Coleman in the coming weeks,” said Corwin. “We are fortunate to have a stellar leadership team to ensure that there is no interruption to learning or district operations.”
