Oceanside CA— Sunday afternoon, November 19, 2017, at 2:41 p.m., deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to an Amtrak train versus pedestrian collision. The collision occurred on the railroad track crossing, located near 250 Cassidy Street, in the city of Oceanside.
A southbound Amtrak train was traveling approximately 50-60 miles per hour when the train operator observed a male pedestrian standing on the tracks. The train went into emergency braking but was unable to stop in time and fatally struck the male.
