Carlsbad CA— On Wednesday evening, October 25, 2017 at 6:16 p.m., a Police Officer for the City of Carlsbad Police Department attempted to stop a 2002 Ford Pickup, which was pulling a trailer, after receiving citizen’s calls that the vehicle had collided with multiple vehicles on El Camino Real at Alga Road in Carlsbad, California.
The vehicle failed to stop for the police officer’s emergency lights and siren at Faraday Avenue and El Fuerte and a pursuit ensued. The vehicle continued southbound on El Fuerte, eastbound on Palomar Airport Road, and continued Northbound on Melrose Drive at a slow rate of speed.
Carlsbad Police Officers utilized a tire deflation device to deflate the suspect’s tires at Melrose Drive and Faraday Avenue in the City of Vista. The suspect then pulled into a parking lot, located in the 2400 block of Melrose Drive in Vista, where he exited his vehicle and was taken into custody.
Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the traffic collisions that had occurred.
The driver and sole occupant of the vehicle was identified as Tuarino Martinez, from Vista, a 39-year-old Hispanic male. He was arrested for a felony hit and run, failure to yield to an emergency police vehicle, and felony driving while under the influence of alcohol.
He was transported to the Vista Detention Facility where he was booked. The investigation into the traffic collisions are ongoing.
