Oceanside CA— The suspect involved in a fatal shooting that occurred on September 22, 2017[Original story here] was identified as 26-year-old Alexander Ochoa, an Oceanside resident. The fatal shooting occurred in the 3400 block of Marron Road.
Investigators determined Ochoa placed the call to police that brought officers to the shopping center parking lot just after midnight.
OPD Officers responded and contacted Ochoa who was armed with a knife. Ochoa ignored repeated orders to drop the knife and officers deployed less than lethal force in attempt to disarm him. Ultimately, Ochoa pulled a black pistol from his waistband and pointed it at the Officers prompting the fatal shooting. Investigators later determined the weapon was an air pistol.
The three officers who were involved in the shooting were placed on administrative duty which is protocol for officer involved shootings. They have since returned to work and have been identified as Officer Johann Ravesi a 14-year veteran, Officer Billy Walker a 2-year veteran and Officer Dustin Schmidt a 4-year veteran.
The Oceanside Police Department Investigations Division is continuing to investigate this case.
The completed Investigation will be forwarded to the San Diego District Attorney’s Office for review.
