Oceanside CA— Thursday evening, October 12, 2017, at approximately 6:36pm, Oceanside, Vista and Carlsbad units were dispatched for apartment structure fire at 3459 Paseo De Alicia, Apt 11, in Oceanside.
Oceanside Engine 214 and Rescue Ambulance 214 arrived within 4 minutes after dispatch, and found heavy smoke coming from the apartment. They initiated an offensive interior attack inside unit #11 and found the kitchen fully involved with fire. They teamed up with additional units and were able to extinguish the fire. Other units on scene ensured that the second and third floors of the apartments were evacuated, and were not exposed to fire or smoke. Firefighters were able to save some of the occupant’s personal belongings during salvage and overhaul of the apartment.
The fire was contained to the apartment of origin and the fire was under control within 20 minutes of the first unit’s arrival. Firefighters were able to save the family dog, but were unable to save two family cats. Both cats died from smoke inhalation, and were found deceased under the one of the beds in the apartment.
The residence suffered heavy damage throughout the structure. All contents in the residence were heavily damaged. The estimated dollar loss for the damages to the structure and contents was not determined at the time of the press release. In addition, the cause of the fire is still under investigated and has not been determined.
A total of four engines, one trucks, one medic unit, one fire investigator and two battalion chiefs responded to the fire, bringing a total of 18 personnel assigned to the fire. No civilians or firefighters were injured during the incident.
