Van stolen in Oceanside earlier in the day
San Onofre CA— Tuesday afternoon, September 12, 2017, at about 4:23 p.m., security personnel at the San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant reported that an unauthorized subject, later identified as 27-year-old Erik Jon Norman, had driven past the entrance gate and into a restricted parking area.
Norman was quickly detained by security personnel. At the time, he was the driver and sole occupant of a white delivery van, which was later learned to have been reported stolen earlier in the day from Oceanside. Norman told security personnel that the van contained electronic equipment and possible explosives.
Sheriff’s Deputies from the North Coastal Station responded to the facility to assist security personnel. Based on Norman’s statements, the Sheriff’s Bomb/Arson Unit also responded to the scene to assess the situation. The van was determined to contain standard shipping parcels, which did not pose a danger to the public or personnel at the scene.
Norman was arrested and transported to the Vista Detention Facility, where he was booked into jail pursuant to the stolen vehicle charge.
