Oceanside CA— At approximately 11:00am, Thursday August 31, 2017, Oceanside Police Officers were dispatched to a collision involving a vehicle and a bicyclist in the westbound lanes of SR-76 east of Melrose Drive. Upon arrival officers began CPR on the bicyclist who was subsequently transported to Palomar Hospital with serious injuries.
As of 12:39pm, the Oceanside Police Department was still working the serious injury accident in the westbound lanes of SR-76 east of Melrose. A Sig Alert was issued for the area and officers are working to re-open the SR-76 westbound lanes, all of which are currently closed.
The driver of the vehicle has been identified as Felix Ruizbazan of Oceanside. Ruizbazan was contacted by officers at the scene of the collision and has been arrested for an outstanding Misdemeanor warrant and driving on a suspended license. The cause of the collision is still undetermined and the investigation is being conducted by the Oceanside Police Traffic Services Unit.
The identity of the bicyclist is still unknown at this time.
