Oceanside CA— On Wednesday, June 28, 2017, just before 9:30pm, Oceanside Police Officers responded to several calls of a collision involving a motorcycle and a truck at El Camino Real and Mission Ave. Officers and Paramedics arrived on scene to find the 25 year old motorcycle rider down and unconscious. The motorcycle rider was immediately transported to a local area hospital due to his serious injuries.
The driver of the truck was detained and after an investigation was determined to be driving under the influence of alcohol. According to several witnesses and evidence at the scene, the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on El Camino Real approaching a green light at the intersection with Mission Ave. As the motorcyclist entered the intersection, a Dodge truck traveling westbound on Mission Ave. turned northbound onto El Camino Real, after stopping for the red light, into the path of the motorcyclist. The Motorcyclist tried to stop but instead collided with the driver side of the truck, ejecting the motorcyclist.
On Saturday, July 1, 2017, twenty-five-year-old active duty Marine, Nicholas Kursinskis, passed away from his injuries suffered in the collision. His family was with him at the hospital at the time of his passing.
The driver of the truck, 59 year old Kennith Allen, was arrested for felony DUI with serious injuries the night of the collision. Kennith Allen has since been charged with Vehicular Manslaughter after the passing of Kursinskis and is currently being held in jail on $500,000 bail.
