Oceanside CA— The fourth annual Celebration of Life, an event hosted by Vista Community Clinic’s (VCC) Project REACH youth development program with support from the City of Oceanside and the Oceanside Police Department, will be held from 12 noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, March 11 at Libby Lake Park, 504 Calle Montecito in Oceanside.
Celebration of Life is free and open to all. There will be will food, music, art activities, and a soccer tournament. VCC and other area organizations will provide information on health, safety, youth development programs and college information for community residents.
A highlight of the event is the unveiling of “Celebration of Youth,” a mural depicting the children of the community. The mural, which measures 10 feet by 12 feet, is the work of Project REACH students with guidance from Oceanside artists Victor Ochoa and Melba Novoa. Oceanside-based Black Lion Concrete Inc. donated the cement and labor to prepare the wall for the mural. Students used leftover paint from the first mural created two years ago at Libby Lake Park. The project was funded by Oceanside Charitable Foundation.
The first Celebration of Life was held in 2014 to remember the victims of violence, and to celebrate the resilience and vitality of the Libby Lake community.
“The event hopes to remind youth of their incredible potential, encourage parents to stay involved in their children’s lives from pre-school to high school, and enjoy partnerships between families and community agencies committed to the safety and success of Oceanside youth,” said Salvador Roman, Project REACH supervisor.
