Oceanside CA— Saturday evening, January 7, 2017, at 6:50 PM, the Oceanside Police Department responded to numerous calls of a serious injury collision on Shadowridge Dr. and Ocean Hills Dr.
Upon arrival, officers located a female, 37-year-old Vista resident, still in the overturned vehicle. She had two children, a 6-year-old boy and a 4-year-old daughter, who had exited the vehicle on their own after seeing sparks from an electrical box that had been hit.
Although the investigation is ongoing, preliminary investigation reveals the female victim, with her children, was driving south on Shadowridge Dr. and for unknown reasons, the vehicle left the roadway near Ocean Hills Dr. The vehicle hit a light pole, two trees and two electrical boxes and overturned. The driver was trapped and sustained serious injuries. All three were taken to local trauma centers for treatment. The driver is expected to survive.
Speed appears to be a factor and it is unknown if alcohol is at this time.
As a result of the collision, power was out for 1554 SDGE customers. SDGE estimates a minimum of 12 hours to restore power to the affected homes. If electrical cables have to be replaced, it may take up to 24 hours to restore power to the affected homes.
The Oceanside Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Team conducted the investigation. Anyone with information regarding this collision is asked to call Accident Investigator Gabriel Cobian at (760) 435-4989.
