Encinitas CA— Shortly before 3:00pm this afternoon, December 20, 2016, deputies from the North Coastal Sheriff’s Station and deputies from the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a Coaster train vs. pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at milepost marker 240.4, which is located just west of San Elijo Ave. and Dublin Dr. in the city of Encinitas.
A northbound Coaster train was traveling at approximately (50) fifty miles per hour when the engineer observed a pedestrian on the rail tracks. The Coaster train immediately applied the emergency braking system and the warning horn, but was unable to stop and collided into the pedestrian. The pedestrian, a male adult, approximately (20) twenty years old, sustained minor injuries to his right hand and received medical treatment on scene before being released.
