Vista CA— This morning, December 12, 2016 at about 9:00 a.m., a 30-year-old male bicyclist attempted to ride his bicycle across Vista Village Drive when he was struck by an eastbound Toyota Corolla. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet and sustained serious head trauma. He was airlifted to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
The extent of his injuries is unknown at this time and his identity has not been released. The 62-year-old female driver of the Toyota was not injured in the collision. Alcohol was not a factor for the driver of the Toyota.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the bicyclist attempted to travel southbound across the eastbound lanes of Vista Village Drive, outside of the crosswalk when he was struck.
The Vista Traffic division is conducting the ongoing investigation.
