Carlsbad CA— Today, November 3, 2016, investigators from the City of Carlsbad Police Department arrested 33-year-old Jesse Estes for manufacturing a controlled substance and possession of marijuana for sale, and booked him into the Vista Detention Facility.
On Wednesday, November 2 at 8:58 p.m., officers, and investigators were called to the 2200 block of Avenida Magnifica to investigate a suspicious explosion/fire that occurred in an apartment. See original story [here]
While trying to contact the residents of the apartment, Estes tried to flee out the third story balcony. Estes was detained by officers who positioned themselves outside of the building.
Through the course of the investigation, Detectives determined that Estes had accidentally created the explosion/fire while trying to extract hash oil from marijuana trimmings through a process that involves the use of a large amount of butane. The explosion/fire caused damage to the interior of the apartment. The resulting fire was extinguished by an occupant of the apartment who used a fire extinguisher.
Arriving Officers and fire personnel noticed a large amount of marijuana in the apartment and paraphernalia used to extract hash oil.
Estes suffered injuries as a result of the explosion/fire and was transported to the hospital.
Estes was released from the hospital on the morning of November 3, prior to being arrested.
