Oceanside CA— Disposing of used motor oil and used oil filters properly is one of the easiest and most effective ways to protect our local environment. The City of Oceanside is hosting a Used Oil Filter Exchange event November 19 from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. at O’Reilly’s Auto Parts (3661 Mission Avenue). Oceanside residents can bring their used oil filters and oil and exchange them for a FREE new oil filter of their choice. One gallon of motor oil disposed of improperly can contaminate one million gallons of drinking water and accounts for as much as 40 percent of the pollution in our waterways. The good news is that properly disposing of and recycling used oil and used oil filters is free and convenient. The City of Oceanside alone has 15 State of California Certified Collection Centers that accept these materials everyday during normal business hours.
The City’s Zero Waste Team, through CalRecycle grant funds, have developed a variety of programs to promote used oil and used oil filter recycling in Oceanside. With the help of the talented team at KOCT, this year the City’s Zero Waste Team produced a 30-second video which sends a message to viewers that it is everyone’s responsibility to take care of our environment. This Public Service Announcement will be shown during the holiday movie season from November 4, 2016, through February 2, 2017, at the Regal Oceanside 16 Theater on Mission Avenue, and is estimated to reach over 150,000 residents.
“This fun video engages our community and demonstrates that we are all responsible for protecting our environment…together!” said Colleen Foster, Oceanside Solid Waste and Recycling Senior Management Analyst. “As the video says, Protect…Collect…Recycle… Do Your Part; it’s easy and the right thing to do for future generations.”
