Oceanside CA— On Tuesday afternoon, August 2nd, at approximately 2:25 pm, Oceanside Police Officers contacted Christopher Barrios, a 34-year-old Los Angeles resident, in the 100 block The South Strand for a minor Oceanside City Code violation.
Barrios provided the officers with false identifying information. Without warning Barrios attacked the officers and attempted to take one of the officer’s Tasers. After a brief struggle, Barrios fled from the officers and ran to the 100 block of S. Myers St. where he barricaded himself inside the laundry room of an apartment complex.
The San Diego Sheriff’s Department helicopter arrived to assist and pepper balls were deployed in an attempt to remove Barrios from the laundry room. Ultimately, Barrios surrendered on his own and was taken into custody.
Barrios was treated at Tri-City Medical Center for minor injuries before being booked into Vista Detention Facility for felony assault on an officer and multiple misdemeanor violations.
The officer received minor injuries during the assault but did not require emergency medical treatment.
