Oceanside CA— This morning, Sunday June 26, 2016, 11: 19 am, the CHP Border Communications Center was advised by Riverside CHP that they were in pursuit of a 2016 Ford Van and it was entering Oceanside CHP’s area.
The pursuit was initiated in Long Beach after the driver of the Ford, Andrew J. Carr, of Bonsall, approached an LA County Fire Chief and made verbal threats against his life. Long Beach
Police Department pursued the vehicle after it sped off from the scene. Carr drove his vehicle recklessly through the city of Long Beach, then onto the freeway where Santa Fe Springs and then
Riverside CHP took over the pursuit.
As it continued southbound on I-15, the Oceanside CHP took over the pursuit at Mission Ave. There were several attempts to spike strip the vehicle but they were unsuccessful. The vehicle eventually ran out of fuel at Camino Del Rey under 1-15.
Carr refused commands to exit the vehicle and continued to resist even after the drivers side window was broken out with a less lethal bean bag shotgun.
A San Diego Sheriff K-9 was deployed and assisted in taking the suspect into custody.
36 year-old Andrew J. Carr from Bonsall was arrested and charged with Felony Evading and resisting arrest. He was booked into Vista Detention Facility. Additional charges are pending the outcome of the investigation.
