San Marcos CA— On Monday May 30, 2016 at approximately 8:30pm, San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle versus bicyclist collision at the intersection of Capalina Road and Hollenbeck Road, in the City of San Marcos.
Upon arrival, deputies found a 13-year-old male lying in the roadway with his bicycle. Several witnesses were on scene to assist the juvenile and provide information about the suspect. The juvenile had injuries to his face and hands. Paramedics determined the victim’s injuries were serious and he was airlifted to Rady Children’s Hospital.
Witnesses stated the suspect was driving an older model white Ford pickup truck. The driver stopped but quickly fled westbound. One of the witnesses provided the driver’s license plate information to Sheriff’s Dispatch. Responding deputies went to the location where the vehicle was registered.
Deputy Epenesa located a 1991 Ford F150 pickup that matched the suspect’s description. He conducted a traffic stop and detained the 22-year-old male driver. A curbside line up was conducted. The suspect and his pickup truck were positively identified by the witnesses. During the investigation, it was determined alcohol was a factor in the collision.
The 13-year-old male victim suffered a fractured left hand and other serious injuries to his face and upper body, but none appear to be life-threatening.
The 22-year-old suspect was arrested for 23153 (A) – VC – Felony DUI ALCOHOL: CAUSING BODILY INJURY and 20001 (A) – VC – Felony HIT AND RUN RESULTING IN AN INJURY. The suspect was booked into the Vista Detention Facility.
