Del Mar CA— On April 15th 2016, at 7:49pm, deputies from the Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit responded to a train vs. pedestrian collision on the railroad tracks at milepost marker 244.4, which is located on the bluffs in the city of Del Mar.
A northbound COASTER Train was traveling at approximately 50 miles per hour when the engineer observed a pedestrian walking onto the tracks. The Coaster Train was unable to stop and collided with the pedestrian.
The train’s emergency braking system was applied. The pedestrian suffered unknown injuries and was transported to the hospital.
The Sheriff’s Transit Enforcement Unit will be handling the investigation.
Since February 2nd 2015 to April 15th 2016 there have been 18 train collisions on the railroad tracks in the San Diego County Sheriff’s jurisdiction.
