Oceanside CA— On Monday January 4, 2016, at about 8:30 pm, Sheriff’s Analysis Driven Law Enforcement (SADLE) deputies observed two individuals, who they knew had outstanding arrest warrants, at the Ramada Inn located 751 Macadamia Drive, in the City of Carlsbad.
SADLE deputies conducted surveillance at the Ramada and immediately identified the subjects exiting a room at the Ramada. SADLE deputies also observed two other unidentified individuals leaving the same location. SADLE deputies conducted a vehicle stop on the unidentified individuals and through their investigation placed them under arrest for various drug related offenses. After booking, two outstanding felony warrants were discovered for one of the subjects.
The two known suspects, along with a female companion left the Ramada in a silver truck. SADLE deputies initiated a vehicle stop on the truck on the Poinsettia on-ramp to southbound Interstate 5. The vehicle initially yielded on the on ramp, where one of the suspects immediately jumped out of the vehicle to flee. SADLE deputies, however, were able to apprehend him as he exited the vehicle. The truck drove away southbound on Interstate 5 with SADLE deputies in pursuit.
During the pursuit through Carlsbad and Encinitas along Interstate 5, the occupants began throwing evidence out of the window, which was later identified as counterfeit related items (printers, computers, counterfeit bills).
As the pursuit continued north on Interstate 5, deputies from North Coastal Sheriff’s Station and the Carlsbad Police Department joined the pursuit. The pursuit continued onto eastbound Highway 76, where two emergency vehicles and a citizen vehicle collided. The pursuit continued east on Highway 76, but ultimately came to an end as the truck collided with the center barrier, where the driver attempted to flee on foot.
An Oceanside Police Department K-9 unit made contact with driver and he was placed under arrest, along with his female companion. The truck was a reported stolen vehicle out of Vista. The vehicle also contained a stolen license plate taken from Vista.
All five suspects were booked into the Vista Detention Facility on several charges, including drug possession, fraud, felony evading, possession of stolen property, vehicle theft and outstanding warrants. The citizen vehicle’s occupants were evaluated at the scene, but needed no further medical aid. A Carlsbad Police Department officer and a Deputy Sheriff were transported to the hospital as a precaution. The collision is being investigated by the Oceanside Police Department.
