Vista CA— Responding to community concerns about problems caused by people driving under the influence of drugs or alcohol or driving unlicensed, the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department Vista Station is conducting another DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint in Vista, on June 19, 2015, from 6:30 pm to 2:30 am.
Checkpoints are held where they can best achieve drunk and drugged driving deterrence and provide the greatest safety for deputies and the public. The number of persons killed or injured in alcohol or drug involved crashes is reduced up to 20% when well-publicized checkpoints and patrols are conducted routinely, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. 30% of drivers in fatal crashes had one or more drugs in their systems.
A study showed more drivers tested positive for drugs that may impair driving (14%) than for alcohol (7.3%). Marijuana was the most prevalent drug, at 7.4%, slightly more than alcohol. Checkpoints
are the most effective DUI enforcement strategy and they have a 90% California driver approval rating.
Specially trained Sheriff’s Deputies will look for signs of alcohol and or drug impairment and check drivers for proper licensing, delaying motorists only momentarily. Drivers caught driving while impaired can expect arrest, jail time, fines, fees, DUI classes, other expenses that can exceed $10,000, and embarrassment when friends and family find out.
This checkpoint is funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety. We urge you to report drunk drivers by calling 911.
