The end of two no fee parking lots in downtown
Oceanside CA— Construction is set to begin late in June on a mixed use apartment project located on block 18 in downtown Oceanside.
Block 18 is currently a no fee, 2 hour limit, parking lot at the northwest corner of Mission Ave and North Cleveland Street. The block is one of five properties held by GF Properties Group, LLC, a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Southern Ute Indian Tribe Growth Fund.
Construction on the complex is scheduled to run through July of 2016. When finished, the building will consist of two retail spaces, one 2,259 square-foot restaurant space, one leasing office and 66 market rate apartments. The apartment units will range in size from 670 square-feet to 1,133 square feet. The project includes approximately 60,000 square-feet of below grade, at grade and street parking.
Traffic routes for construction vehicles, including heavy trucks and cement trucks, has the traffic flow, traveling to the site, going south on Coast Highway from SR-76, right on Surfrider Way, left on N. Cleveland through the residential area to Lot 18. From the site, vehicles will travel south on Cleveland, left on Seagaze and follow the one-way traffic pattern back to Mission Ave.
Lot 20, another no fee parking lot directly south of lot 18, adjacent to the transit center will also be closed to parking for construction staging. Peter Weiss, Assistant City Manager, told a group attend the monthly MainStreet Oceanside meeting, Tuesday morning, that several areas were being looked into for adding parking relief, including the lot adjacent to the Top Gun house. The lot would be a pay to park lot.
Oceanside City Council-member Jerry Kern said the idea of changing the remaining, fee free, 2 hour lots into 4 hour lots was being floated but there is resistance to the idea by downtown business owners who need the parking turnover for their customers.
