Oceanside CA— At 12:18 this afternoon, units from Oceanside were dispatched to a reported working brush fire at the intersection of Westbound 76 and Canyon Drive. A large amount of smoke was visible as the first unit arrived 4 minutes after initial notification, Engine 2111 found fire burning along the shoulder of the freeway moving towards the San Luis Rey Riverbed.
Initial responding units pulled attack lines and made an aggressive offensive attack on the fire. The fire was attacked from both the east and west of sides of the fire. The crews were able to surround the fire and extinguish it prior to it heading into the San Luis Rey Riverbed.
Additional units were utilized for manpower and to provide water to the initial arriving units. This fire was one of several fires started along the 76 freeway today.
A string of approximately five spot fires were put out by firefighters along SR-76 between Melrose and E. Vista Way
The fire is currently under investigations and nothing has been determined on the cause of the fires along the 76 freeway at the time of the press release.
A total of 3 engines, 4 brush trucks, one squad, one water tender, one fire investigator and three battalion chiefs responded to the fire, bringing a total of 26 personnel assigned to the fire.
No firefighters were injured during the incident.
