Rescue personnel found the body of 74 year old Gertrude Hollis in the rear of the fire building and it appeared she may have been trying to find refuge in her bathtub. They also found her husband, 63 year old Andrew Hollis, outside suffering from significant burns and smoke inhalation.
Hollis has been in the UCSD burn ward since the fire.
Two dogs were also rescued and were turned over to the Humane Society; both had burns, but were in stable condition. Firefighters also searched for the step-son of Hollis, but he was not found within the burned home or within the surrounding area.
Arson investigators from the Oceanside Fire Department, the Oceanside Police Department, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms worked together on this case since that date.
Today detectives from the Oceanside Police Department arrested Andrew Hollis. The investigation indicates Hollis was responsible for the fire which resulted in the death of his wife.
