Oceanside CA— Oceanside Firefighters responded to reports of a residential fire located 150 South Meyers St at 4:53 p.m., Thursday afternoon.
The first unit on the scene, Engine 2111, reported smoke and flames visible in the two bedroom single story home. One firefighter said the fire was so hot, it melted plastic in rooms that were not touched by fire.
The family was home at the time of the incident. Two adults were inside and two children were playing outside in the back yard when the parents smelled smoke. They looked around the house and saw fire in the kitchen and left the house through the rear door. Neighbors helped the residents move vehicles from the driveway and away from danger.
It took approximately 25 firefighters, making an offensive attack on the blaze, about 18 minutes to contain the fire. Oceanside Battalion Chief, Terry Collis said “The whole thing was on fire but it’s a small house. We knocked it down quickly.”
The preliminary damage estimate is $150,000 to property and contents. Meyers Street was closed at Tyson for approximately 2.5 hours while firefighters mopped up the scene and helped the residents remove salvageable items from the home.
