Oceanside CA— The San Diego County Coroner has released the identity of the Oceanside teen killed in an early morning accident on I-5, Monday, February 16, 2015.
Stephen Nicholas Asebedo, 18 of Oceanside, was the single occupant of a Nissan Pick-up truck northbound I-5, north of Leucadia Blvd traveling at an unknown speed at approximately 3:10 a.m. For reasons still under investigation, he applied his brakes and lost control of his vehicle. Asebedo veered to the right, collided into a dirt embankment, overturned several times and eventually knocked over a light pole.
Due to the collision with the light pole, it was knocked down and fell onto the windshield of a 2009 Sterling UPS Big Rig. The driver, a 49-year-old male from West Covina was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Asebedo had to be extracted from his truck by the Fire Department personnel using the jaws of life. He was transported to Scripps La Jolla Hospital where he was pronounced dead from blunt force craniocerebral trauma.
