Carlsbad CA— This morning, February 9, at 8:31 a.m., the City of Carlsbad Police Department responded to a report of a suspicious person who had possibly attempted to burglarize a motel room at the Carlsbad Inn located 3075 Carlsbad Blvd. Prior to officers’ arrival at the Carlsbad Inn, the suspect fled southbound across the street to the Best Western Lodge located 3180 Carlsbad Blvd.
The suspect entered the lobby of the Best Western Lodge and confronted two Lodge employees. The suspect brandished a steak knife with an approximate 4 inch blade and ordered the two employees into the back office adjacent to the lobby.
Officers established a perimeter around the Best Western Lodge. The suspect threatened to kill the employees if they made any noise while being held in the office. After a short period of time, the suspect exited the office into the lobby and was detained at gunpoint by officers. The suspect yelled at the officers asking them to shoot him. The suspect was not armed at that time and was taken into custody by the officers after physically resisting arrest. The suspect’s knife was recovered at the scene.
This investigation is ongoing. The police department does not believe that there are any outstanding suspects related to this incident. There were no injuries to victims, officers or the suspect.
The suspect has been identified as 29-year-old Abraham Ledesma-Gomez from San Diego. Gomez was on state parole at the time of this offense. Gomez will be booked into the Vista Detention Facility for Kidnapping, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Burglary, and a parole violation.
