San Marcos CA— Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a report of a head-on collision at the intersection of East Mission Road and Bougher Road in the city of San Marcos at approximately 6:15am., February 18, 2015.
The on-scene investigation confirmed via witness statements, indicated that a westbound Nissan Frontier crossed into the eastbound lanes of East Mission Road at Bennett Road and continued westbound on East Mission Road at a high rate of speed. At the intersection of Bougher Road, the pickup collided with an eastbound Chevrolet Tahoe.
The driver of the Nissan had to be extricated, via the jaws-of-life, by San Marcos Fire Department personnel. This driver was transported to Palomar Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The victim in the Chevrolet suffered moderate injuries and was also transported to Palomar Medical Center.
The status of his injuries were unknown at this time, but it is believed his injuries are not life threatening. A SigAlert was initiated, with road closures lasting until approximately 1:30 PM, including westbound East Mission Road between Bennett and Woodland Parkway. The deceased, at-fault, driver in the fatal collision is suspected of driving under the influence.
