Fallbrook CA— On December 19, 2014 at approximately 12:19 p.m., a 25-year-old male from Monrovia was driving his 2001 Ford Expedition southbound on I-15 near Gopher Canyon Rd. with five passengers. A San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputy who was directly behind the vehicle indicated that he observed the right tire tread of the Expedition start to fall off the vehicle. The vehicle then lost control into the center divide, hit the metal divider and then overturned before landing in the center divide of the northbound lanes.
The driver of the vehicle and two of his passengers, a 22-year-old female from Monrovia and a 21-year-old female from Santa Monica died in the collision.
A two-year-old female child survived the collision with no injuries, but was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital in San Diego for precautionary reasons. Two other passengers, a 21-year-old male and a 43-year-old female were transported to Palomar with minor to moderate injuries.
All were related with the exception of the 21-year-old female from Santa Monica. The family was traveling to Mexico to attend the funeral for the 43-year old female’s father. (The 43 year old lost her daughter and son-in-law in the crash. They were the parents of the two-year-old girl).
Alcohol or drugs are not a suspected as a factor in this collision. The accident remains under investigation.
