Oceanside CA– Shortly after noon today, Friday October 24, 2014, Oceanside Police and Fire Departments responded to a 9-1-1 call of a skydiver injured while landing at the Oceanside Airport.
Rich Grimm, owner of the skydiving company, Tsunami Skydiving which operates out of Oceanside Airport, said the injured jumper is one of his friends from out of town. “He just didn’t flare his parachute soon enough and caught his leg as he was landing” explained Grimm. “He never lost consciousness but he was in a lot of pain with a broken leg.” The unidentified skydiver was on course, landing in the landing zone at the north-east corner of the airport property.

Rich said it was only the second 9-1-1 call in 32,000 jumps at the airport. The first was a woman who landed about a half-mile from the airport, on a fence, at a private residence in February of 2013.
The skydiver was transported by REACH Air Ambulance to Scripps La Jolla with a possible broken leg. Grimm said Tsunami Skydiving will remain open and jumping will continue today.
