Oceanside CA– A citywide LED street light retrofit project has the city losing its night-time ambient orange glow. Southern Contracting began the replacement of approximately 7,700 high-pressure sodium street lights with energy-efficient LED’s, in early September, throughout Oceanside. The new LED lights will be at least 50% more efficient than the existing high-pressure sodium lights, and will amount to a reduction in energy of approximately 2.6 million kWH per year and reduction in carbon dioxide of approximately 1.7 million pounds per year.
The first phase of the project will take about 4 months and be completed by the end of the year. The second phase of the project will begin in early 2015 and will include parking lot lighting in the Downtown area, Harbor, City parks and other City facilities.
