Oceanside CA– The Oceanside International Film Festival opens today, Sunday August 3rd,2014, with a red carpet arrival of film industries stars and reception of filmmakers at Star Theatre, 2:00 p.m.

Celebrities attending this years festival include Charles Kaufman, a writer and director, known as the creator of Mother’s Day (remake, 2010) and Mother’s Day (horror film, 1980). He was a writer for The Bob Hope Show, Dennis the Menace TV series (1986). Veteran casting director D. Candis Paule (CSA) and actor Saginaw Grant. Grant is a veteran Native American actor, whose face is easily recognized by many, especially after his latest big role as Chief Big Bear in The Lone Ranger, starring Johnny Depp (2013).
Today’s schedule of events:
2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. – red carpet arrival of film industries stars and reception of filmmakers at Star Theatre, 402 North Coast Hwy, Oceanside, CA 92054. This is a perfect picture opportunity in front of the OIFF Official Backdrop to the live background music of steel drums. (Enjoy ocean-themed live outdoor performance by young Steel Drum student musicians led by Keli Ross Ma’u, who had studied in the West Indies island of Trinidad – the birthplace of the pan instrument.) The evening will continue at Star with refreshments & appetizers in the beautiful lobby.
3:30 p.m. – live performance onstage of Star Theatre.

3:50 p.m. – opening speech and greetings from OIFF’s organizational committee, and Celebration of “Junior” Seau’s Life and what would have been his 45 birthday in connection with Oceanside High School.
4:00 p.m. – screening of ‘The Legacy of Oceanside High School‘ by KOCT, interview with “Junior” Seau is part of it, 0:28:27.
Pat and Glenda Kimbrel will address the audience on behalf of Oceanside High School Alumni And Foundation. In charge of the foundation, they will be making a speech just before the screening of documentary “The Legacy of Oceanside High School” by KOCT, which includes interviews with “Junior” Seau. The history of OHS, the oldest high school in Oceanside, stretches for over 100 years. In 1906 it opened under the name of Oceanside-Carlsbad High School in the two upstairs rooms of the existing Grammar School located on the present site of Oceanside High School with 20 students.
4:30 p.m. – 10 minute break.
4:40 p.m. – screening of Guest Feature Film titled ‘Patrol base Jaker’ [Link], winner of previous OIFF, 1:20:00.
Camp Pendleton marines and veterans of all wars are encouraged to see the guest feature film “Patrol Base Jaker”, a breathtaking documentary about the US Marines (1/5th of which are from Camp Pendleton) and on the practice of counter-insurgency in Helmand Province, Afghanistan.
6:00 p.m. – conclusion

The festival will use two venues in downtown Oceanside for the purpose of publicly screening films. The historic Star Theatre which opened in 1956 with capacity for 986 people. Now, with 440 stadium-style seats and no obstructed views, it boasts a “California Historic Landmark” marquee decorated by multi-colored lights, and a beautiful round ticket booth as a centerpiece at the entrance that brings a sweet movie-going nostalgia to many North County’s old timers. Then the audience will get a chance to become familiar with the historic facility of Sunshine Brooks Theatre, built in 1936 originally with 659 seats, now with capacity of 200. The Brooks is the oldest standing theater in Oceanside.
